I think she thought she was the rightful ruler of the throne since she had much royal blood in her, and also she may have wanted to be up there with the other famous women of Egypt like Cleopatra. Now Hatshepsut may have not been all selfish, it could be the case that she wanted her step-son to become more mature, which I would agree with because Thutmose III possibly killd his step-mother from jealousy. So childish.
